Spring Clean Your Life

Just like every spring we clean our homes, and gardens, or our bodies through detoxes and cleanses, same can be done with our life.

One of the first things I do with my clients in 12 weeks journeys is to audit their life, where we take a close look at their lives through contemplation, mindful inquiry into their homes, their routines, their relationships, and their beliefs and values. Sometimes we are so used to things being a certain way, we forget that it is within our power to change our life. But how do we know what needs to be changed if we are unaware of the current state of affairs. Let’s be honest we all have a messy drawer or some dust on top of the fridge we always seem to overlook, or better yet, that dress in our closet that “just waiting its time”. Well, those things are just reflections of who we are in life, in our relationships, or in our beliefs.

Below are few invitations and simple steps to bring more awareness into your life, and dust if off a bit.

Spring cleaning your environment (home, car, workplace).

Take a thorough look at your home, your car or your office space, noticing the areas that may be cluttered, neglected or just simply blah… Clean it up! Give it your presence! Let go of anything that no longer brings you joy! If you wanna do a deep cleaning- check out Marie Kondo and her method.

Audit your energy levels.

Every emotion you experience has an effect on your body and on your resilience, whether or not you are aware of it. Every emotion immediately causes changes in your body, and renews or depletes you. Throughout the day notice where your energy is. Notice your emotions, your thought patterns and notice whether they are loving, kind, instructive or destructive to you.

Become aware of what you speak and what you think.

Our words have power. What we think, what we speak is what we believe, and what we believe, we create. Are you using words/tone that is loving and kind to you, encouraging and supportive, appreciative of others?

What beliefs are you reinforcing with your words? For examples instead of saying “I struggle with meditating”, try saying “I am learning meditating”, or even better “ I’m getting better at meditating (speak it into existence!). Instead of saying “no worries” (bringing more worries) say “thank you” ;) Other words to avoid: should/shouldn't, have to, can’t, struggle, try.

Take a look at your relationships.

BIG BOLD LETERS DISCLAIMER HERE: this isn’t an invitation to cut off anyone from your life. This is an invitation to take a look at those relationships that matter to you and see who you're being in them, what they are showing you about yourself, and how you are showing up for them. This is about YOU, not about them! Include your relationship with money, your body, your relationship with your business/work.

Are these relationships nurturing? Are they satisfying? Are they fulfilling your needs? How can you recommit yourself? Do you need to set boundaries or better communicate your needs?

Take a look at all areas of your life using The Wheel of Life.

Identify your satisfaction through all areas of your life, find where you may be out of balance, and what you can do to create more of it.

Inventory of your values and aspirations.

Some prompts to contemplate:

What do you believe to be true in your life? What do you value about yourself, your life? What is the most important to you now? How do you want to experience your life? Who/what do you admire? What are some goals your have? Are they still valid and true to you? What are your grateful for? What inspires you? What gets you up in the morning? How do you want to be remembered?

To live in congruence with your values means to be solid in who you are, to create your life in accordance with what you believe and to be unshakable at your core.

Becoming aware of our beliefs, patterns and dusty refrigerator… brings more clarity into our life. Once we know what the issues may be, we can intentionally take actions to align ourselves with what we want more of!
